Josh's Yarrabah mission trip 2024

Dear Friends and Family,

I hope this message finds you well!

It’s Josh Slatter here, I’m excited to share that on Sunday I’ll be embarking on a mission trip to Yarrabah in North Queensland with a group of year 11’s and Teacher’s from my school. Since 2006, Covenant Christian School has been visiting this wonderful community, and over the years, we’ve seen countless positive impacts and fostered many great friendships.

During this trip, I'll be part of the sports and games team—yes, I know, not a big surprise there! We’ll be running various activities for the kids, and I’m eager to be a good steward and mentor for them. This journey is not just about giving; it's about growing in faith and learning from the amazing people of Yarrabah.

I’m reaching out to ask for your support in two ways.

Firstly, your prayers are incredibly important to us. Please pray for our safety, for the kids we'll be working with, and that we can truly make a difference in their lives. Pray that I can be a positive influence and help share the Gospel with the kids at Yarrabah.

Secondly, if you’re able, I would greatly appreciate any financial support you could offer.

With this mission trip we were meant to find supporters and raise the money, while also contributing and working towards this ourselves. I’m late to the party in putting this out there, this part doesn’t come naturally to me. We’ve been working as a team since November last year. We’ve had multiple weekend camps in preparation and we’ve been working with the year 3’s in our junior school. They even made a book for each of us to encourage us (some pics below).

We’ve set up this Go Fund Me page to help cover the costs of the trip. Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to me.

Here’s some more information on Yarrabah… it’s a self-governed, indigenous shire, approximately 30km east of Cairns (about a 50-

minute drive). It has a population of around 3000 people. This community has many of the facilities similar to any of our

local suburbs, including a Primary and Secondary School.

This trip is an opportunity for both the Covenant students and the children of Yarrinbah to come together and learn from each other.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
