I’m starting this GoFundMe for my cousin Josh (& his family). Josh is a happy, outgoing, sometimes stubborn as hell, beautiful 27 year old boy who last weekend suffered a massive, debilitating stroke following 3 weeks of being deemed in heart failure with only 14% of his heart functioning.

Josh is not lucky enough to live in the UK where we have access to a well established publicly funded healthcare system. Where he lives in Manila in The Philippines public healthcare is still developing, and many citizens do not have access. As such the healthcare system is very much like the American system where everything is paid for.

Similar to most people his age Josh, a care-free 27 year old, had no medical insurance either privately or through his work which means every part of his treatment;

- every day & night in hospital

- every consultation

- every scan

- every test

- every medication

- every procedure/ operation

is added to a spiralling medical bill which may run into tens if not hundreds of thousands.

This compounds the stress suffered by his family during what is already an extremely distressing time. Josh has already had 2x brain surgeries since his stroke on Saturday (26th Oct.) as doctors try to stabilise him & stem the bleeding on his brain before attempting to tackle the further issues of blood clots, fluid on his lungs & his declining heart function.

At this point we are uncertain of what further procedures he will need in the coming days, weeks or even for his longterm care.

I can’t prevent or stop the suffering & pain my family is going through right now but I hope that by setting up this fund I can help in some way to minimise the financial burden & alleviate some of the stress they are currently experiencing so please give what you can.

I will be transferring 100% of funds donated (minus the 2.9% fee GoFundMe takes) direct to my family in The Philippines to help pay for Josh’s care.
