Our son, husband, dad, brother, friend, Josh Golsan, is fighting for his life.
During Phase One of this battle, Josh completed 3 months of chemotherapy. He struggled to eat and the nausea was debilitating. He struggled to function and the debilitation was depressing. Overall, Josh lost 48 lbs, all of his hair, but he didn’t lose hope that one day he will be in full remission living a normal life.
Now he is in Phase Two - surgery time. The first surgery is for a large tumor in his chest. The metastatic mediastinum teratoma has grown during phase one, so the doctors have pushed for surgery asap. We learned recently that no one in Oregon, or the Northwest, will do the surgery… “it’s too risky”. The one surgeon that has accepted his case is in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Ken Kesler from Indiana University stated “I’ve never done something this extensive. This will be the most challenging one I’ve seen” regarding his tumor. It’s growing around his trachea, esophagus, lungs and aorta along with massive nerve beds and blood supply. The all day surgery will include thoracic, head/neck, and vascular surgical teams. Dr. Kesler was clear he may not survive the surgeries and he likely won’t be able to remove the tumor completely. This first surgery is September 8th in Indiana. He will need 2-3 more in Indiana. Then he will return to Oregon to have abdominal surgery for the retroperitoneal tumors then yet another surgery to remove the affected testicle.
We have started this Go Fund Me account to ease the burden of Josh, Taylor and their two young sons. Over the next days, weeks, and months ahead they will need to be at countless doctor appointments, hospital stays and surgeries - all in Indiana (3000 miles from Oregon). As you can imagine the normal costs of every day living...such as rent, food, gas, car, etc...the medical costs can be astronomical. This will enable them to concentrate on getting well and fighting this wicked disease called cancer.
From the bottom of our hearts we humbly ask that you share this link with friends and family and if possible in giving (any amount will help).
We thank each and every one of you for the love and support!!!
