Joshie's Posse
Donation protected
This Go Fund Me effort is being created on behalf of Joshua Hayek and Family, by Joshua's Aunt Carma and Aunt Angela. We will do our best to keep everyone updated about Joshua's health and medical status to keep loved ones and donors informed of his progress and recovery journey.
Joshua's story:
Joshua "The Flash" Hayek, is a 17 year old Senior at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. He is a friend to every student at the high school and an amazing Basketball player.
The week of February 14th, 2022, Joshua became ill with cold and flu-like symptoms. A trip to urgent care for ongoing congestion, followed by the Emergency Room due to concern for his oxygen levels, finally resulted in admittance to Rady's Children's Hospital due to complications related to pre-existing conditions of Down Syndrome and Autism. On February 21st, after running several tests, the medical team at Rady's diagnosed Joshua with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This news came as a shock to everyone.
Over the next few days, doctor's at Rady's learned more about Joshua's health and, specifically, that he has B Cell Leukemia which is the most common form and treatable with aggressive measures. A plan for Joshua was developed to remain in the Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for one week and then transfer to Oncology for approximately one month. Following this, Joshua will participate in intensive outpatient care for up to six months and then two-three years of medical check-ups and visits. Although our Joshua is sick, we believe he is getting the best care from the most experienced professionals at Rady's.
Josh has his pizza pillow with him!!!
How to help:
The road to Joshua's recovery will be a long journey and his family will need the help and support of loved ones to manage the day-to-day challenges. There will be many "hidden" costs associated with recovery including transportation, gas, and food With your help, all funds collected through this Go Fund Me page will be put toward the efforts to support his family. We want to ensure Linda and John can focus on Joshua's health recovery, Quinn and Kate continue to get to school each day with lunches made, Aidan stays enrolled in film school at SDSU, and the family is able to spend as much time together with Joshua as possible.
We have received many inquiries on how to help and donating through this Go Fund Me page is only one way. As Joshua's doctor's provide more information and a long-term plan for care and management is created, the family may also need meals, transportation assistance, or simply words of care and support. We will do our best to update everyone with the most current information and ways loved ones can effectively help the family. Please keep praying for Joshua, the Hayek family, the team of doctors, and our entire community. Your love, prayers, and support are being felt immeasurably and they carry a source of hope and comfort most needed during this time. Through the mercy of God our Father, the love of Christ Jesus, and the strength of our Mother Mary, we know that Joshua and the Hayek family are in good hands.
