On the morning of Sunday 8/6, our rugby brother Josh Archinal was involved in a car accident while traveling in the Chicago area where he had been visiting friends. Due to head injuries sustained in the crash, Josh was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois where he is currently receiving life-saving care. Doctors performed surgery to remove the bone and clot in his brain, however, the swelling was too much and they were not able to remove it. Because of the swelling, a portion of his skull was removed to reduce pressure and allow room for the brain to do what it needs to do to in order to heal. Though he is currently on life-support, Josh's condition has shown improvement and he is responding to painful stimuli.
Thankfully, members of Josh's immediate family were able to make the trip to Elgin to be by his side yesterday. Additional family members are making travel arrangements and will be there soon to help lift up the Archinal/Shaeffer family during this trying time. The next few days are critical as we patiently wait and pray for continued healing.
On behalf of Canton Rugby, I am reaching out to our local and extended rugby family, and all those who know Josh and his family, so that together we can help alleviate the immediate and long-term expenses associated with a tragedy of this magnitude. The Archinal/Shaeffer Family has been a pillar to both the Dover, Ohio community and the rugby community in general, and we must do our part to help give back to this family that has given so much to us. Brothers Josh, Austin and Braden have all come up through our youth rugby programs and continue to play at the collegiate or adult club levels. Josh started with us in middle school, played through high school and college, previously served as the men's Team Captain, and currently serves on the Executive Committee as our Treasurer.
Funds raised will be used to provide basic necessities for Josh's immediate family to enable them to stay by Josh's side as long as possible while he is receiving out-of-state care. In addition, funds will be used to offset the costs of Josh's medical expenses, recovery and time off work. No donation is too small...in fact a $12.00 donation would be a beautiful sentiment to our amazing #12!
I understand everyone may not be in the position to donate at this time and just ask that those who cannot contribute financially to please keep Josh and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Please reach out to me directly if you would like to support the family in a different way.
Thank you,
Jason Doyle
Canton Rugby Club President
