Josh is a Project Manager for an exterior company out of Denver. Yesterday, July 21st, he was doing the final inspection on a roof that had been completed. He started to back down onto the ladder, and the ladder snapped in half. He fell to the ground, approx 15-18 feet. He tried to stand up, but his left leg buckled and he went down. He was able to army crawl to his truck and pull himself up into his vehicle. The homeowner came out to see if Josh wanted him to drive him somewhere as the homeowner didn’t see the fall, but Josh declined and drove himself to the ER. They immediately did X-rays and a CT scan, and they knew right away both legs were broken. He shattered both tibial plateaus and the tibia in his left leg. He was transported to Parker Adventist Hospital and had the first surgery today, July 22nd, to place ex-fix (external cages) on both legs to relieve the pressure on his knees. He will spend at least one day in the hospital and will follow up on Tuesday with Ortho. They are hoping they can operate on both legs at the same time, but are afraid that it'll take two separate surgeries. They will operate possibly next Tuesday on one leg, and the other leg next Friday.
Thankfully, there were no internal injuries or more damage done! His pain is being managed, and his spirits are as positive as can be. He has his wonderful family surrounding him during this time, but now that he's made it through the first battle, there is a long road ahead for him. With the current state of COVID, Josh's employment had already been negatively affected, and as of now, they are expecting 3 surgeries. Depending on healing outcomes, screws/pins placed and recovery, there could be more. He'll have physical therapy, countless doctor's appointments, and mounting medical bills. He is instructed to put NO weight on his legs for 3 months and will be utilizing a wheelchair to get around. As we all would feel, this is devastating to experience, and scary entering the unknown, unable to work.
Coming from our small town of Eaton, I know our community has come together more times than I can count supporting those needing it most in a variety of situations. Right now, Josh needs both our prayers and financial support. His journey is just now beginning, but hopefully in some way, we can help lessen the burden he will be facing in the months ahead.
