My family has always been wealthy in our Indigenous culture, traditions and unconditional love. However, modern wealth has never been on our side. As other kids my age were getting braces in middle school, I never had the financial privilege of receiving that treatment. I had one opportunity to get braces when i was thirteen but I egotistically declined because of course thirteen year old me knew whats best for my future at that time. The years have finally caught up to me and because of my own teenage mistake of turning down braces, I now have to face the consequences.
I visited my dentist last August and not only are my teeth crooked; they are over crowded, ground down from decades of nightly teeth grinding and receding towards the center of my mouth. These symptoms listed are going to continue to get worse unless i receive dental reconstruction.
As a Indigenous Person of the Modoc tribe, I asked for tribal assistance for dental work but they only cover it if you live on the reservation.
It seemed like all efforts to solve this issue is to reach out to you.
The recommended treatment is to remove 4 teeth and apply traditional braces. My teeth are so spread out and out of order that the clear braces that I have looked into wont reach my teeth. It will be embarrassing for me for a little while to wear them but if it saves me from worsening dental health I am all in.
I would love to see funds coming in by the end of February but March is also a decent end date. If the goal is not reached by the end of March, I will bite the finance bullet and start making moves.
Not only will this procedure help my teeth from further moving towards the center of my mouth, I can say that not once in my life have I had the confidence to smile in front of other people without the fear of judgement and embarrassment. All I am saying is that it would be an added benefit of feeling like I complete a feeling of happiness around other and not hold back a genuine smile.
I ask for your kindness and generosity in assisting me raise the funds to get this dental procedure done as soon as the end of March.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Joshua Hood.
