Josh Makoutz Emergency Fund
On Wednesday, August 18, Josh Makoutz was seriously injured in a biking accident through no fault of his own. He was transported to UW Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for multiple skull fractures and facial lacerations. He, his wife Jill, and their three kids had just traveled from northern California to visit friends and family in Wisconsin, where they’d lived for many years. We would like to help offset some of the anticipated expenses and medical bills (they are receiving care out of network and have high deductible insurance), though it is difficult to estimate the total costs. When Josh and his family return home, he will need time to rest and heal. His ongoing treatment will be at least an hour away. The requested amount would cover his deductible for 2021 (and 2022 if needed), lost wages during recovery, and a new helmet for his handsome face.
Those of you who are fortunate enough to know Josh, know him to be one of the kindest, most genuine, and hardest working people you’ve ever met. (I doubt the medical staff at UW Hospital have heard as many thank yous from a patient.) He and his wife, Jill, are known for their ability to create and foster community through food and friendship from downtown Madison to their sleepy mountain town.
Thank you for rallying with us in support of Josh and his family.
