Josh and Kayla Cotton live in Stanton, ND with their two young boys and just lost their farmstead early Friday morning to a tornado. Below is the Josh's interview with the Bismarck Tribune. T
Josh Cotton said he and his wife bolted out of bed just after midnight, hearing the wind gust, rushed through their bedroom door and grabbed the children. Josh Cotton pulled Rhett, 2, whose window was already blown out and shattered, out of his corner bed next door. Kayla Cotton was a few feet further down the short hallway, shoving at the partially blocked nursery door, where Kort, 11 months, was in his crib.
“I could only get the door open a little ways. I reached in and found his feet, but there was debris on him and he was stuck. I pulled it off and wiped the fallen spray insulation away from his eyes and mouth. He was covered in it,” Kayla Cotton said.
They ran into the kitchen but couldn’t open the basement door because of the pressure bearing down on the house as the roof lifted off and sidewalls went over. Josh Cotton grabbed a gun and blasted a hole in the door so he could pull it open and the family sheltered in the basement until the storm died out.
