My name is Pierce Loveless, and I’m lucky to call my brother in Christ Josh Bermes, one of my very close friends.

Josh is a father to two amazing kids and is a Custom Home Builder in Bulverde, Texas. He inscribes scripture on the frame of every home he builds. I’ve always admired how Josh weaves his faith into every aspect of life, down to something as small as the pieces of wood used to build a house. If you know Josh, you know he is as tough as they come. He is constantly communicating to God with a fighter’s mentality, as he works to be a warrior of God and let GOD do His work.

In May 2022, my friend Josh was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer that had metastasized to his liver, lymph nodes, T3 backbone and pelvis bone. He has been very limited on food he could eat due to the pain in his esophagus and drinks a lot of protein shakes. On July 14th, Josh got a stent placed in his esophagus to allow less pain when he eats. Unfortunately, on the evening of July 15th, the stent moved, and Josh was rushed to the hospital. He was in extreme pain for 12 hours before undergoing another surgery to replace the stent with a longer one to keep it from moving. With cancer in his T3 backbone, it is severely painful for Josh to move. Every move he makes is excruciating; he has to be on constant medication for pain control to make it through each day.

In the past few months, Josh has fought hard through two rounds of chemo and immunotherapy, but the tumor is still growing as of July 19th. Close family friends were able to get Josh into the top esophageal cancer doctor at MD Anderson in Houston on July 28th. More tests are being run currently, and radiation is being considered to help with back pain. Josh is also willing to do more chemo and participate in clinical trials to help him with this battle to win cancer.

I am asking our combined network of community to help Josh with the overwhelming medical costs. I hope you will help me honor Josh by showering him with the love, prayers and generosity to match what he has given to the Bulverde community for the past eight years.
