"Jose's Wings" to the hospital

On March 7th 2021 our amazing friend Jose Mejias was mountain biking in our local Lake Forest Trails, here in Lake Forest, CA. Jose hit a rock, and ended up being airlifted out via helicopter to the local trauma center "Orange County Global Medical Center". Jose has suffered severe head trauma, brain bleeding and swelling, along with a broken nose. He was placed in a medically induced coma to help stop the bleeding, and keep his heart rate from spiking. MRI tests showed that everything was good besides the head trauma. After 1 week the hospital was able to take him off meds to help him wake up without any other complications. Although there is a lot of hope for Jose's recovery it's still going to be a long journey. He has been able to respond to voices with small head movements and has the ability to move his hands and feet.  Jose has not been able to open his eyes yet, but with small victories each week, we know it will it's just time before he is on his feet again. 

Jose is originally from Venezuela and has now been with us here in California for almost 2 years. We feel so lucky to know Jose, and so lucky to have him as a part of our CrossFit Forest Community. He is the friendliest guy we know, always with a smile on his face and always has a great attitude. 

While Jose is in recovery we want him to know how much he is loved and not have to worry about the stressful hospital bills. Those should be the last things he needs when he is trying to get back on his feet. 

Although we don't have a final bill yet, we want to be able to get the support Jose's needs ASAP. We know for certain the transportation to the hospital was not covered (helicopter). Based on distance traveled the ride was about 5k. He will have other end expenses, but we will know those numbers with time. Whether you know Jose or not, he will be eternally grateful for your support and love through this long road to recovery.
