In August 2022, Jose and I moved to New York City to pursue our dream of earning MBAs at Columbia. Just six months in, everything changed—Jose suffered a life-threatening stroke due to a ruptured brain aneurysm. He survived two major surgeries, spent 150+ days in ICU and rehab. Since then, he has faced every day with incredible courage and strength.
Jose has worked incredibly hard to regain even the most basic abilities and in 2024, against all odds, returned to school. But he still cannot walk and faces challenges with balance and coordination. His physical therapy is critical to his recovery —but it’s no longer covered by insurance, and the out-of-pocket costs are overwhelming for us.
Anyone who knows Jose knows how kind, joyful and determined he is. His spirit lifts everyone around him. With the right therapy and your support, he can continue making incredible progress and, one day, be able to walk again.
