Joseph’s Fight

The Austria family has started a go fund me campaign to raise funds for the urgent medical needs of Joseph Austria. This is Joseph Austria; friend, partner, son and brother. Giving, gracious, loving and brave. He is the type of person you'll neverforget an encounter with. His concern will always be how he can make you feel more comfortable and loved. He listens deeply and shares fearlessly.
Joseph has gone through some unthinkable challenges and come through like a champion. Unfortunately, he fell victim to Myelofibrosis, a life-threatening rare blood disease and has undergone countless hospital stays at Dartmouth- Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center in New Hampshire. Through many blood transfusions to chemotherapy. Joseph remained strong and exemplified a fighting spirit to overcome these momentouslife struggles. Amazingly, a 100% match was found and he received a bone marrow transplant on May 9, 2018.
His role would not be that of victim. He is an incredible a super healer. The strength of the human body is spirit is truly awesome. After only 20 days he was able to go home but on a continued road to recovery with many precautions that needed to be taken in the months ahead.
We truly believe it was through love, prayers and continuous support that raised him up, and helped him heal. His positivity shone through and he was always grateful to every single person who contributed so much as a prayer.
Dartmouth hospital was filled with generous, kind, professional, efficient staff who cared not only for his body but his heart. They were definitely a factor in his miraculous healing.
By Christmas all his hair had grown back his level were great. He was even able to travel back home to Toronto to visit family and friends. Yeah! Celebrations! It felt like a victory for all and it was. He spoke of his ordeal with only positivity and as a life changing experience that only made him more grateful and inspired to connect with others and make a difference to those suffering.
This winter new leukemia blasts were discovered and another round of chemotherapy was required. Once cleared for travel he seized the opportunity to treasure every precious day and support a friend by being present for his beautiful wedding in New Orleans.
On their trip home the unimaginable occurred, Todd rushed him to the nearest hospital. He suddenly found himself in surgery for a potentially fatal blood clot to the brain.
His partner Todd has been by his side every minute as he has been for so many years now. Devoted, determined and advocating relentlessly to find him the best care, lift his spirits and will him back to health. He continuously takes on so much responsibility without any hesitation. As always, something like this is so unexpected is hitting them financially especially because Joseph is hospitalized in NO and we are trying to move mountains to get them home to New Hampshire, where they would receive better responsible, comfortable care. His request to move him back to his home hospital was denied and we must rectify that. All we want to do is ease some of the financial burden and get him home where he can heal surrounded by those who love him.
Working together with the support of so many amazing people like you and those who have been a part of the battle from the beginning we can make a difference. Joseph will feel your positive intentions and prayers that you put out into the universe. Prayer and positive thoughts, especially collectively hold incredible power. We pray that you will send them. We also pray that you can help ease this financial burden. Whatever you can give is more than appreciated. Thank you and God bless you all.
Why are your contributions so important?
Joseph needs to return to New Hampshire to do this will not be covered by their insurance, Todd exhausting all options found the most cost effective and medically safe solution. This flight will ensure he can begin responsible care for recovery from the brain surgery and the critical oncology he relied on previously.
The road to recovery will be long and require constant care;your contributions will help ease the financial burdens associated with that.
