In December of 2020, our world changed forever. My sweet son Joseph, who was just 5 years old at the time, was diagnosed with ependymoma brain cancer. He went through a brain surgery to remove a golf-ball-sized tumour in his cerebellum, followed by radiation and chemotherapy.
For just under two years, we were hopeful — Joseph was cancer-free but in December of 2022, our hearts broke again. The cancer had returned. Joseph went through another surgery and full-body radiation.
In April of 2024, the cancer came back for the final time. Our options were extremely limited this time. We enrolled him in a new clinical trial that required us to travel to another city twice for six weeks each time. Unfortunately, by the time treatment began, the cancer had already spread to his spine.
In December of 2024, after receiving the CAR-T cell therapy, Joseph had to undergo yet another brain surgery. The treatment caused his tumours to grow rapidly and form a cyst, which started causing severe symptoms.
Right now, Joseph is still taking chemotherapy, but it's no longer stopping the spread. Doctors have told us he may have less than six months left.
What matters now is time — time with his siblings, time with family, time to make memories that will last forever.
Earlier this year, we took Joseph to Disney World, but he was extremely sick during that trip. I made a promise to him: we’ll go back, and this time we’ll make it magical.
I also want to take Joseph back to Alberta, where we can spend time with family and be surrounded by the beauty of the mountains — a place that brings peace and joy.
I’m doing everything I can to give Joseph the happiest, most love-filled moments we can. The funds raised will help us:
* Travel to Disney World one more time
* Visit family in Alberta and spend time in the mountains
*Surprise birthday party for Joseph with family and friends
* Cover bills and day-to-day expenses
* Create joyful experiences for Joseph and his four siblings
* Funeral expenses
This journey has been heartbreaking, but Joseph’s strength and smile continue to inspire everyone who meets him. Anyone who has met Joseph, the first thing they notice is his beautiful long eyelashes.
I just want to give him as much joy, love, and comfort as possible in the time we have left.
If you can help in any way — whether through a donation or by sharing this — we are endlessly grateful. Thank you for reading our story and for holding our family in your heart.
With love and gratitude!
UPDATE- We made it back to Disney world and Alberta, we made lots of amazing memories together.
