Joseph "Dee" Waite and Andrea Mccarthy
Donation protected
It was a somber summer morning on Saturday, August 31, 2019, as 22 motorcycles, a flatbed filled with flowers and about a mile long line of cars traveled the highway in the funeral procession for our dear friend Bill Tonyes and a day that changed the lives of Joseph “Dee” Waite and Andrea Mccarthy forever.
As Dee and Andrea were one of the twenty –two motorcycles escorting Bill to his final resting place, they were traveling southbound on the highway when a car traveling northbound cut through the funeral procession making a left hand turn striking Dee and Andrea at a high speed, causing a major accident.
The impact of the accident was so great that both Dee and Andrea were thrown the distance of a football field. Andrea recalls every moment of the accident, from the time she saw the bumper of the car coming towards her, to her flipping in the air and seeing motorcycle parts flying past her.
When both Andrea and Dee finally landed they both recall sitting up and looking at each other, as they landed right across from one another. It was seconds later they both had “Guardian Angels” around them that helped them get through the next scary couple of minutes before the helicopter landed took Andrea away and the ambulance took Dee to the hospital.
Andrea has endured one surgery on her leg so far, as she has two broken legs and will need further surgeries. She also has 6 broken ribs, a broken elbow, stitches in her hand, fractured cheekbone, blood in her lung cavity, she had to receive a blood transfusion and has road rash all over her body. Dee will be undergoing surgery for his fractured eye socket and fractured cheekbone, as it is fractured in 3 out of 4 places. Dee has lost complete vision out of his left eye and it is unlikely that he will regain it. He has severe lacerations over his left eye, which includes many stitches and numerous stitches in his left elbow, lacerations to his left arm, left ankle and left knee and tons of road rash. It is going to be a long road to recovery for the both of them.
Both Dee and Andrea will be in the hospital for an unknown amount of time and needless to say will not be returning to work any time soon. With that being said we have started this gofund me page to help them out during their recovery.
For those of you that know this couple know that Dee is an active member of The Sons of Italia and has been an active member in the community for many years. Both Dee and Andrea have donated their time and have supported the community in many ways and it’s our turn to give back to them. To All of our Friends, Family and 81 Community if you are able to donate it would be greatly appreciated from all of us and especially Dee and Andrea! Thank you!
