Joseph’s Story: More Than He Wants to Tell

Let me tell you a little about this incredible man I get to call Dad. I consider my father to be my hero: helping out with coaching my t-ball team, the man who built my childhood home, the man who’d do anything and everything to provide for his family all the while protecting and serving his community. My father’s entire career was as a patrolman for Flemington Borough Police Department. Even after he retired, he continued working in construction/landscaping, renovating homes until he physically could no longer do so.

My father, Joseph Mancini, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 23 in 1994. Just starting out his career with the police department, he was diagnosed during a medical exam. Having a new medical condition which there is no family history of and very little knowledge about can be scary for some, but my father stayed hopeful even with the obstacles he was bound to face, he continued to live his life to provide for his family. My father worked and put the safety of his community every single day before himself not only as a police officer but with his health also. My father served his community as a patrolman for 23 years, and retired in 2012, and now my Hero needs the community’s help.

As many people know, diabetes can impact other organs other than just your pancreas. For the past couple of years he has been battling stage 4 renal failure as a result of his diabetes. For circumstances beyond anyone’s control, his kidney function has deteriorated faster than we had hoped. Though it comes easy for me to talk about his life, it’s not as easy for him. As a very private man, one of the hardest things he has had to face is not the disease, but the need to have to ask for a lifesaving organ. He has lived his life by protecting and serving the community, never to think he himself would one day need to have to ask for help. Now I’m trying to stay hopeful and I am asking the community to return the support to him, as he protected and supported his community for over 20 years. Please share my dad's story and help us raise money for a kidney transplant!

We are hoping to get a living donor as kidneys donated from living donors offer better outcomes and a life-saving alternative to the long uncertain wait.

If you or someone you know, would consider donating a kidney, or just want more information – please be in touch. Please help us spread the word. I am happy to send you more information or answer any questions.

The kidney transplant process could take +5 years. Fortunately people have been generous enough to donate their own kidney being a living donor. A Living donor could make this happen in as little as 6 months to a year! For information on how to become a living donor, please go to www.lvhn.org/livingdonor . Include Joseph Mancini as the one getting the kidney transplant for the living donor application. If you have any questions please reach out to Joe's Family! The donor evaluation is FREE and CONFIDENTIAL and takes an average of 90 days to complete. The more people that apply, the better chance we have at finding a suitable donor.
Please note that the transplant team will not contact you. It is up to the one trying to donate to complete the online application and schedule the tests required for this process.

Any monetary donations are to help cover expenses that will come up before the surgery and also that will come up during the recovery time after the transplant surgery.
Donations will help cover:
* Medical bill expenses his insurance does not cover.
* Medications needed (some for the rest of his life)
* Post surgery home care costs
* Transportation to and from doctor appointments

Any amount of donation will help and will be truly appreciated with tremendous gratitude.
