Joseph Barcelo Cancer Treatment
In the fall of 2019, Joseph’s mom was diagnosed with Leukemia and needed a bone marrow transplant after completing chemo therapy.
After many tests, Joseph was determined to be the best match for the bone marrow so in February of 2020, he donated his bone marrow saying he was just happy to give his mother life. The transplant was successful and Mary is now thankfully in remission.
Around this same time, Joseph began having lower abdominal pain, sometimes so severe that he couldn’t walk. After numerous ER visits, and virtual appointments due to COVID, it was determined that he may need a nerve block to relieve the pain and was referred to a urologist. When he was finally able to meet his urologist in person on June 4, it was immediately determined Joseph actually had testicular cancer. The nerve block was cancelled and instead, Joseph was scheduled for emergency surgery.
On Monday, June 8, Joseph had surgery to remove the cancer and the doctor scheduled chemotherapy treatments to begin after his recovery. Four days later, test results showed the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes, so lung and brain scans were conducted.
On June 19, results showed the brain scan to be clear but a nodule was found in Joseph’s lung. Chemotherapy began July 13, however doctors have now discovered the nodule in Joseph’s lung has grown in size in a very short amount of time.
Joseph is a fighter and has incredible faith. Even with increasingly difficult news, he is continuing to remain positive and says he is more concerned with family having to deal with the potential effects of this diagnosis than worrying about himself.
One of the types of cancer Joseph has been diagnosed with is aggressive and multiple rounds of chemotherapy and medical treatment may be necessary to fight this horrible disease. During treatment, Joseph will be unable to work and as many unfortunately know, medical bills incurred for cancer treatments are daunting.
Please consider sending words of support, keeping Joseph and his family in your prayers and donating if able.
