Hey my name is Jose Sanchez, A year ago on October 29th, 2022 my life was almost taken from me. With God watching over me that night I am thankfully still here and able to tell my story. Although my life did not end, so much was taken from me including my ability to walk, independency, 3 jobs I had, my truck that I worked so hard for, and overall just my freedom as well as my family’s freedom.
I had no health insurance at the time of my injury and have battled to obtain and keep health insurance since. Out of pocket expenses for everything I need for my recovery process and day-to-day needs is very expensive.
Senseless gun violence is such a huge problem and unfortunately I became a victim to it. I was shot 4 out of 6 shots fired and was lifeless when responders arrived. I had to be revived, airlifted to Atrium in Charlotte, undergo multiple lifesaving surgeries, and have numerous blood transfusions. I was in critical condition and my body fell into a coma. Due to one of the bullets being lodged in my spinal cord (T-4 fracture) I am now paralyzed from the nipple line down.
This whole thing has been extremely painful, long, and mentally stressful, as well as very financially stressful for my family and I. I am so grateful for the help I have received since this life changing night occurred but unfortunately I am still struggling greatly. I am asking for support to help pay for therapy, doctors visits. My mom has been my primary caregiver causing her to not be able to work. With her and I both out of work it has made it very difficult within our household.
I have attempted to reach out to different resources but many have been unsuccessful. Donations for doctor’s appointments can be made directly to the Naturopathic Doctor or Acupuncturist that I am seeing to help with my recovery and regain my mobility. I have also attached an Amazon wishlist that includes items that would benefit me and help with my recovery. I am confident that I will someday walk again but it is going to be a difficult and expensive fight to get there.
