Hi,
I am starting a fundraiser in behalf of my father, as he was recently discharged from the hospital. He is a diabetic and has gone through toe amputations due to an infection. After surgery, he had multiple strokes in different parts of his brain and now has major brain damage.
After several exams, it was determined that he has clogged arteries in his brain, heart, and legs. 4 major brain arteries are now clogged, 2 being about 60% clogged. Only 25% of his heart is working due to previous heart disease. His foot infection also came back because the bacteria became resistant to the antibiotics.
As of now, his doctors have shared that he will need more amputations and a leg bypass surgery. However, he can’t have anymore surgeries right now due to the condition of the heart and the severity of the strokes. He will first need to recover from the strokes before anything else can be done about his conditions. Although we hope for a speedy recovery, most stroke patients only have a partial recovery within the first 3-4 months but it varies by patient.
We are happy to have him home but it is a long road to recovery. He’s currently on IV antibiotics for the next 5 weeks to try to keep the foot infection from spreading.
Due to the stroke his verbal and motor skills have been affected and he’s also in an unstable mental state. He needs 24/7 monitoring as he is mentally, physically, and emotionally going through a lot.
It’s been a difficult time for us and we would like to ask for help with his medical expenses. We are financially responsible for his antibiotics, medication, speech therapy, physical therapy, and daily wound care nurse visits. He will also be seeing 6 different doctors: a neurologist, vascular, cardiologist, podiatrist, infectious disease, and primary care.
We appreciate any type of support in this tough time. Thank you for your help.
