Unfortunately, Jose tested positive for COVID-19, which was complicated by his diabetes. He has now been hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a month now with talks of needing to soon transfer him to a different hospital that can heavily focus on helping him wean off his ventilator.
On the second night of his admission, one of his lungs collapsed which later required chest tubes and intubation. Jose continued to be intubated and ventilator dependent without any signs of improvement which led to Jose getting a tracheostomy. Family also shared that Jose will be getting surgery for a gastric tube (tube that goes right to his stomach) for his nutrients since he is not able to eat by mouth at the moment.
For anyone that knows Jose, knows how sweet, caring, and hard working he truly is! Jose is part of the EVS team at La Rabida Children’s Hospital and at Jackson Park Hospital. He worked two jobs to help support his family during these difficult COVID times, but now he needs our help! Jose has a wife, 3 kids, 3 grandkids, and he is 1 of 6 siblings. Any money that can be donated to ease the burden on Jose and his family for his long term care, medical expenses, bills that he would otherwise be paying would be greatly appreciated.
Please consider donating to Jose’s cause, no amount is too small or too large. Feel free to also share this message with anybody you feel would be interested in donating.
If you have any questions, feel free to reachout as well!
