On Tuesday, February 28, 2017, we lost an amazing father, husband, grandfather, and friend--José Meléndez. As some of you know, he suffered from liver disease, and he passed away due to complications from this disease on Tuesday morning in Brooklyn, NY, surrounded by his loving family. Years ago, José undertook a courageous journey from Mexico to build a better life here in the United States, where he sought to achieve the American Dream for his family. He was the most selfless man you would ever meet. He lived life fully, especially enjoying cooking, soccer, driving, fishing, and watching his beloved New York Mets. More than anything, though, José loved his family.
As part of his wishes, we will be burying him in San Juan Huiluco, Mexico. We hope to raise enough money to offset the costs of funeral arrangements both here and abroad, and to help our mother, Navora.
Jose was 53 years old when he passed, leaving behind his loving wife (Navora), daughter (Lorena), son (Ismael), grandson (Randy), and granddaughter (Paris).

El martes 28 de febrero de 2017 perdimos a un hombre increíble—padre, marido, abuelo y amigo--José Meléndez. Como algunos ya saben, José sufría de una enfermedad hepática y debido a las complicaciones de esta enfermedad falleció temprano esa mañana en Brooklyn, Nueva York, rodeado de su querida familia. Hace años, José emprendió un viaje valiente para poder construir una vida aquí en Estados Unidos, logrando el sueño americano para nuestra familia. José era el hombre más generoso que jamás hubieran conocido. Le gustaba cocinar, jugar al fútbol, conducir y seguir a los Mets de Nueva York, pero más que nada amaba a su familia.
Como parte de sus deseos, lo enterraremos en San Juan Huiluco, México. Esperamos recaudar suficiente dinero para compensar los costos de los arreglos funerarios tanto aquí como en el extranjero, y para ayudar a nuestra madre, Navora.
José falleció a los 53 años. Su querida familia—esposa Navora, hija Lorena, hijo Ismael, nieto Randy y nieta Paris—lo sobreviven.
