Jose Jr. Santos was involved in a terrible car accident Saturday May 15th.
Jr is 3 Years Old.
Since then he has went through 8 Surgeries/procedures.
When the accident took place he went to Mary Bridge Emergency Room at 9:30 p.m. in Tacoma, Wa. Then at 11:30 p.m was air lifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA. He immediately went into Emergency Surgery for internal bleeding and a lacerated liver due to his intestines bleeding. They had to stop the bleeding by removing 2 sections of his intestines. 3 hours later he then had another surgery to repair his Aorta. The Aorta is the main and largest artery in the human body, originating from the left ventricle of the heart and extending down the abdomen, where it splits into two smaller arteries. The Aorta distributes oxygenated blood to all parts of the body through the systemic circulation.
He was then moved to Pediatrics ICU unit at Harbor View.
Monday May 17th the doctors went into his stomach to clean out his intestines and repack his belly to reduce the chance of infection. Tuesday May 18th was his 4th surgery to connect the lower intestines to the upper, but not to the colon at that time.
Wednesday May 19th - 5th surgery was for an emergency Halo. A Halo Ring crown is a metal devise to critical manage his broken neck/spinal injury. This metal device is attached to the head with small pins that are inserted into the skull to hold everything in place. To keep the Halo from moving in any direction, vertical rods connect it to a persons shoulders, where it's fastened to a vest. The vest wraps around the neck, over the shoulders, and down to the belly button.
Thursday May 20th (2 surgeries on this day) - 6th surgery the doctors went back into his stomach to repack and flush out the intestines for the 2nd time to reduce chance of infection. 7th surgery was to remove Halo and put the neck wear in his broken neck to put it back together so the neck can begin to heal and grow.
Friday May 21st surgery marked surgery #8. This one was to reconnect the lower intestines to his colon and to close his stomach/belly which was successful.
The doctors want Jr to rest all weekend Saturday May 22nd - Monday May 24th to gain more strength to have another surgery Tuesday May 25th. The surgery/procedure he will have Tuesday will be to get his breathing machine taken off and have a Tracheotomy. A trachea (windpipe) is a surgical procedure which consists of making a incision to the front of the neck to create an opening with a direct way to make contact with the airway. The resulting stoma (hole) can serve independently as an airway or as site for a trachea tube to be inserted; this tube allows a person to breathe without the use of nose or mouth. The result will end up being better for him in the long run. He will begin to start the healing process and to hopefully speak again.
The scans do show some brain damage, but we do not know how severe it is tell he begins to heal.
Jr. Has been opening his eyes from time to time and has been moving his arms up and down. As of right now no movement from the lower half of the body. He is showing emotion and movement in the upper body which are big strides.
After the surgery that will happen on May 25th, once he is strong enought he will then be transferred to Seattle Children's Hospital for recovery. As of right now estimated recovery time will be anywhere from 6 months - 1 Year at Seattle Children's Hospital in Seattle, WA
There is so much more and many more details the doctors are trying to explain/ we are still trying to accept at this moment. We are leaving a lot of this in God hands and he will continue to create miracles for this little boy.
There was also 4 other people in the vehicle when the accident took place. There was a young boy named Lua, 15 years old. With great sadness he did not make it and passed Wednesday May 18th. This courageous boy saw the accident coming, took his seat belt off sheltered his body over his girlfriend and Jose Jr.
We are forever in debt for his noble act. Forever a hero Lua. We ask that you please pray for his family during this time. If there is a link when it is created for Lua we will make sure to attach it to this page.
These donations will be going towards anything Jose Jr will need Medically. Food for Grandma and Mom while they are up at the hospital. Parking at the hospital is $40 a week. Gas/Travel expenses. And the list goes on and on..
Jose Jr. Has been fighting for his life everyday since and continues to keep the doctors and nurses on their toes. He is a miracle baby. Our little super man.

We love you so much, keep fighting little man. ❤
