Jose “Joe” Farias Ochoa

To know him was to love him. I think most who knew my Tio Joe would agree with this sentiment. He was the kind of guy who made you laugh and uplifted the room even in his life’s most intense situations. Not that he didn’t take things seriously, but that he was selfless and wanted us to feel happy and good around him. It is with much sadness and heartbreak I write of his passing. My Tio joe had many success and battles in his life time and although he put up a fight this time around, God knew he was suffering too much. He wasn’t ready but trusted god all along…. On August 28th, 2022, Tio Joe lost his battle to esophageal cancer.
For the past 8 years Tio Joe worked hard trying to establish a new and honest life in Mexico. He worked 16 hour shifts at a pharmacy and hotel, until he was able to save enough money to purchase a food truck where he sold cheeseburgers and hotdogs. By 2018, he was finally in a place where he was making profits from his small business and lived a comfortable life with the stability he longed for some time.
By 2019, Tio Joe was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. I think most would agree that having a cancer diagnosis and dealing with its effects depletes and consumes the person and family. In Mexico, those impacts were heightened due to the lack of resources and medical care available to him. My Tio spent every last penny he had seeing specialists, getting scans, and working on his nutrition attempting to get better. He worked his food truck until he physically couldn’t anymore. The past year and a half things got progressively worse as expected and my Tio suffered day in and day out with the illness as well as the anxiety of not having his family near by. As mentioned, he fought long and hard but Gods love for him was stronger and he couldn’t see my Tio suffering any longer…Although we wish we didn’t have to create this fund, the reality is we need help bringing him home. All proceeds will go to transporting him here to California and funeral expenses. We as a family appreciate any help provided.
RIP to our Angel Jose “Joe” Farias. We love you forever.
