Hey, I'm Kate. I'm trying to help my friend whose grandpup was in a horrible accident. Vet bills are unbelievably high, but it was either agree to pay the vet for emergency surgery or let her son's dog die before their eyes. Let me tell you what happened.

This story starts with my friend, Jo, who is probably one of the most kind-hearted people I have ever met. I've been blessed to have met her through our job working with kinder-first Sped kiddos. I've seen firsthand the love she gives out freely. She goes absolutely above and beyond for anyone. When one of our kiddos had dirty clothes, she showed up with clothes for them. One of our kids' shoes were so small they hurt when he played in the gym; without much change on the parents' end, she went and got sneakers for him. We're potty training? Guess who's coming in with potty seats, potty books, and singing potty songs? That's right, Jo is. When we planned a trip and my kids were too worried about leaving our dog at the kennel, she took him in and spoiled him rotten. When my beloved cat passed unexpectedly, she was there with the biggest hug and support. When our friend wanted a room painted, she and I showed up, and the three of us got the room done. She has been a person in my corner I never knew I needed. I'm hoping reading just a small fraction of what an amazing person this woman is will show you just a piece of who she is and why I hope there can be some help.

Here's what happened:

Jo took her dog Daisy, her daughter's dog Stevie, and her son's dog Honey out to their cabin they share with family. All the dogs are sisters from different litters. This is something the dogs love to do; they play and go swimming. Jo's husband was playing fetch with the dogs. Honey ran for the stick and somehow was impaled by a stick. This stick went through the back end of her torso and almost out the other side. Horrified, they called from all around trying to get someone to help, but it was the weekend and few vets were open. They finally found an office that was open. They laid Honey on part of a couch cushion to transport her but had to cut part of the stick to get her in the car. They had little choice: either let Honey succumb to her injury or get her in for emergency surgery. Without blinking, Jo said to save the dog and they would figure everything else out. After a long surgery and a miracle, Honey pulled through. The stick missed her artery and intestines, but her recovery would be tough. Jo was there helping take care of her son's dog while he worked, draining the bag out for her recovery, keeping the surgery site clean, checking the dog's temperature, and even resting with Honey in a makeshift baby corral they set up. This is all while she's still in summer school with our kiddos. She fought with doctors to have Honey seen for possible infection and getting her meds. Each time there was a question, the vet would say bring her in for evaluation, and it turns out there was a charge for each and everything. Now nearly up to $10,000 in medical expenses.

When we talked about the expenses, she said she had no choice; this was the only vet willing to help, and how could she not try and save Honey?

As of now, she doesn't know I'm trying to do a GoFundMe for Honey. She is just talking about working even more to make up for the expenses. I know it's a long shot, but I thought if there was anyone who may deserve a break and some help, it would be Jo. She's dedicated well over 20+ years to special needs adults and now works with special needs children. She's always there for everyone else, so maybe this could be a way to help her out.
