On 23rd April 2023, our friend Jo and 4 supporters- team Rainbow Warriors- are doing the London Marathon. Jo has an assisted wheelchair place and we will push her.
We are raising money for two amazing causes:
• Team Ladybugs paratriathlon team are on a mission to make sport accessible, and show there are no boundaries for disabled athletes. Stephan, from Team Ladybugs- usually found racing with daughter Chloe- has provided a racing wheelchair and is running with us.
• The Be More Bailey foundation was set up by Bailey Matthews, a young triathlete with a disability. The foundation provides grants for specialist equipment to enable young people with disabilities to get involved in sport.
Why are we doing this?
In 2019 Jo was living her best life, training for her second marathon after catching the running bug in her 50’s.
Devastatingly, a routine scan following an unfortunate car crash showed that Jo had lung cancer. Worse, Jo was given 6 to 9 months to live.
Jo was not accepting that. Forever dressed in rainbows as a sign of her positivity, Jo has since been wild swimming, zip lining, holidays, taken on a hike across Hadrian’s Wall, and continues to volunteer at her local parkrun. Two gorgeous grandchildren have arrived since 2020 and are Jo’s world.
Jo has undergone numerous cycles of treatment, determined to manage her illness, and this resolve inspires everyone who knows her. Jo entered the 2023 London Marathon ballot, not dreaming she would get in, but entering symbolised her attitude to try everything. And she got in!
It became clear that Jo’s plan to walk it was impossible. So, Jo looked for alternatives and secured an assisted wheelchair place. And now the next adventure begins……
Our friend, Jo, is one incredible human being. She wants to make something horrible into something amazing and raise money for others so they, like Jo, can have access to sport, adventures and fun. We would massively appreciate your support
