We are Jorvik Radio, a not-for-profit community radio station based in York. Our objective is to provide a voice and a platform for the city’s businesses, charities, community groups and musicians, a voice that will be heard! We want to be a true reflection of our great city.
We were recently awarded an FM licence by Ofcom meaning we will soon be in a position to broadcast on FM Radio (still York’s most popular method of radio listening) very soon. Running a radio station is pretty expensive and, as a not-for-profit organisation, it’s often tricky to generate the start up costs needed to get equipment to fill the studios - desks, microphones, computers, perhaps even the odd vinyl player too for our specialist music shows.
We thought the best way to help us get our start up cost for this community station is to ask you, the businesses in the community. We are looking therefore for up to 100 “Founder Partners”.
Q: “What does this cost?”
£50
Q: “What do I get?”
- You will get a ticket to our launch party plus an open invite to our annual founders party AND
- Every founder partner can vote on which song is the first song to play once we’re on FM, we won’t have a say in it so the control is in your hands AND
- We will have an interview with you on one of our shows once we launch. You could talk about your business, promotion or project. Plus a further interview 12 months after the first one AND
- We will produce a 10 minute podcast about anything you want (your business, your promotion, you name it) AND
- We will name you (or your business if you prefer) on our “founding partners” board which will be a permanent feature in our studios, and on our website/ social media AND
- You will receive a 10% discount, if you decide to advertise with us. No strings attached, whatever the advertising amount.
We aren’t doing this for personal gain (remember, not-for-profit means we are all unpaid volunteers), we are doing this for the community of York and we feel this is a great opportunity to add to the arts and media scene in York.
Q: “Why are you doing this?”
We believe the community needs a voice to truly represent the diverse range of interests in York. Our mission statement is to “build community through communication” and that is exactly what we will do. Jorvik Radio was founded by members of the community, for members of the community and will be as professional as it is unique!
Q: “What else can I do to help?”
We’re asking for £50 to become a founder partner. Plus, a single share on social media is worth an average of £10 so even just sharing this fundraiser with others would be a huge help. We are also on social media ourselves so be sure to follow @jorvikFM on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and keep an eye out for our launch.
