Hi all,
As a lot of you may already know, Jorja Beven and Jayden Schofield have recently been dealt some life-changing news. At the age of just 27, Jorja has been diagnosed with Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia (GTN) which is a form of cancer.
This developed after a miscarriage at 9 weeks, which in itself is an incredibly difficult experience to go through. Jorja initially started chemotherapy treatment in Geraldton, but unfortunately, the original drug did not show any improvement. She has now begun treatment with a second drug in an effort to get on top of the cancer and eradicate it from her body. Early indications suggest that her body may not be responding to this treatment either.
Jorja has already had to take multiple weeks off work during the early stages of treatment, as they are required to travel to Perth to receive care that is not available in Geraldton on weekends. They now need to travel to Perth every other week, where Jorja undergoes treatment every second day during their stay.
This ongoing situation brings significant financial strain, including the cost of accommodation in Perth, time off work (until leave is exhausted), fuel or flights, and many other expenses that come with circumstances like this.
Speaking for myself, it can sometimes be difficult to know how to support someone going through such a challenging time. Jorja and Jayden would never ask for help and don’t want to be treated any differently or pitied. However, as a community, I believe this is something we can do to help lighten the load and, in turn, reduce some of the stress they are facing.
Jorja and Jayden have both had a positive impact on many people and are deeply loved in the community. Any donation, no matter how big or small, will go a long way in helping these two beautiful people get through a time that no one should have to face.
