Jorge's Medical Support and Care

I’m the daughter of Jorge de la Fuente (60) and I’m creating this page on behalf of my mom, Lorraine and my sister, Justine.

 

 

My dad is incredible, and an incredibly horrible thing has happened to him that has shattered our worlds forever. This September, my dad was found unresponsive in the parking garage of his work, a passerbyer found him and called emergency services, which ultimately saved his life.

 

We later learned he suffered a cardiac arrest, which caused him to collapse suddenly, fracturing his skull and breaking multiple bones in his face. The oxygen depletion to his brain paired with frontal lobe trauma left my dad in a vegetative state, clinging to this world on life support, on a bed of ice to give his brain a fighting chance. His doctors were preparing us to say our final good-byes, the road ahead seemed too bleak to imagine he could pull through.

 

 

But, my dad is incredible - he fought his way back to us, against all odds. Three months since his accident he has moved from a Medical ICU, to various rehab centers and now, finally, released home to his wife Lorraine. Although we are so overjoyed to have him home, his road to recovery is long and the end is unknown. My mom has taken an unpaid leave from work to stay home and care for him full time, but my dad’s monthly expenses are mounting as they reach the end of what their insurance covers.

 

 

Your generosity will help provide the necessary funds to ensure my dad can continue the weekly physical and speech therapies he desperately needs, as well as provide an at-home medical aid to support my mom as she fights to keep my dad in his house and out of a nursing home.
