My name is Juana, and I'm organizing this fundraiser in the hopes of covering my dad's funeral and memorial expenses.

My dad fell ill in October 2023. His throat would completely close shut, and he underwent numerous procedures, tests, and surgeries over the span of a year and a couple of months. My father's health deteriorated rapidly. He soon lost the ability to breathe through his mouth, speak, eat, and more.

It wasn't until late December 2024 that a test came back positive for cancer. In January 2025, we were told my father had Stage 4 throat cancer.

Unfortunately, at this point, it was too late. My dad's body was tired from all the previous surgeries and procedures he had endured. His body wasn't able to withstand chemotherapy, and he was only able to complete radiation. His cancer metastasized and spread to his lymph nodes in June 2025. That is when the oncologist told us that his cancer was incurable and that, with the current palliative care he was receiving, the cancer could only be controlled for a few months to a year. Upon hearing this, my dad let me know that that timeframe was too long. He was right; on July 27th, he passed at 2 p.m. Since we unfortunately didn't sign a DNR earlier, my dad was resuscitated three times on the way to the hospital, against his wishes. He left on his own terms at 9:34 p.m., despite being on life support.

My dad gave my family and me the greatest gift of all: unconditional love. He worked incredibly hard all his life just to soften ours. It is hard to compile a lifetime of love into a single post, but if all fathers were even a fraction of the dad he was, the world would be a better place. And if love alone were the cure, I'm sure he would've never fallen ill in the first place.

Mi papá enfermó en octubre de 2023. Su garganta se le cerraba por completo, y se sometió a numerosos procedimientos, pruebas y cirugías a lo largo de un año y un par de meses. La salud de mi padre se deterioró rápidamente. Pronto perdió la capacidad de respirar por la boca, hablar, comer y más.

No fue hasta finales de diciembre de 2024 que una prueba dio positivo para cáncer. En enero de 2025, nos dijeron que mi padre tenía cáncer de garganta en etapa 4.

Lamentablemente, en este punto, ya era demasiado tarde. El cuerpo de mi papá estaba cansado de todas las cirugías y procedimientos anteriores que había soportado. Su cuerpo no pudo resistir la quimioterapia y solo pudo completar la radiación. Su cáncer hizo metástasis y se extendió a sus ganglios linfáticos en junio de 2025. Fue entonces cuando el oncólogo nos dijo que su cáncer era incurable y que, con los cuidados paliativos que estaba recibiendo, el cáncer solo podría controlarse durante unos pocos meses a un año. Al escuchar esto, mi papá me hizo saber que ese plazo era demasiado largo. Tenía razón; el 27 de julio, falleció a las 2 p.m. Como desafortunadamente no firmamos una orden de no reanimar (DNR) antes, mi papá fue resucitado tres veces de camino al hospital, en contra de sus deseos. Se fue por sus propios medios a las 9:34 p.m., a pesar de estar conectado a soporte vital.

Mi papá nos dio a mi familia y a mí el regalo más grande de todos: amor incondicional. Trabajó increíblemente duro toda su vida solo para hacernos la nuestra más fácil. Es difícil resumir toda una vida de amor en una sola publicación, pero si todos los padres fueran incluso una fracción del padre que él fue, el mundo sería un lugar mejor. Y si el amor por sí solo fuera la cura, estoy segura de que nunca se habría enfermado en primer lugar.
