As a proud trumpeter of the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra (UCBSO), I am happy to announce that on May 26, 2014, the UCBSO will depart for Central Europe on its inaugural international tour. During this 10-day tour, the UCBSO will travel to Prague, Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest to perform works by Copland, Gershwin, Shostakovich, Saint-Saëns and others in some of the world's most prestigious halls including the newly refurbished Liszt Academy of Music and St. Stephen's Cathedral.
I am honored and grateful to be offered the opportunity to tour with the UCBSO. The potential of representing my friends, family and the UC Berkeley community as a musician of this orchestra is a dream come true. The cost for orchestra members to participate is approximately $4000. To date, I have raised about $400 from selling tickets to our concerts. In addition to raising funds for my own tour payment, I recently played Christmas carols with my friends in the trumpet section to help raise money for the general orchestra tour fund. I will continue to perform in public spaces for donations as well as sell concert tickets until we depart in May. With these efforts and savings from my graduate student stipend, I expect that I will only be able to afford half ($2000) of the tour payment. Therefore, I humbly ask for a financial contribution of any amount to help get me one step closer to realizing this experience of musical and cultural growth.
This wonderful opportunity coincides with my graduation on May 18th from the doctoral program in mechanical engineering at UC Berkeley. I cannot imagine a better way to celebrate my graduation.
Please contact me without hesitation if you have any questions regarding the tour or the UCBSO. Thank you for your kind consideration.
