A genetic disease without a cure, that is cystic fibrosis. Jorge Alberto Zermeno was blessed into his loving family May 31, 1989. When Jorge was born he was full of life and love with the spirit of a true fighter. When Jorge was an infant, the doctors told his mother and father the devastating news. Cystic Fibrosis. It dramatically rocked their world as the doctors explained there is no cure. They decided together to fight this uphill battle . To fight together as a family to give Jorge a life full of happiness and love even if his life expectancy at the time was only 18 years.
You see, Jorge is now 29 Years old. Still fighting against all odds with his family beside him. He is now in need of lungs as his lung capacity is dwindling at a high rate and has been requested to move to Houston for a Double-Lung and possible heart transplant, uprooting his family from their home in Brownsville , TX( 6 hour-drive)so they can be here with him in his time of need.
Thankfully the medical bills and procedure will be covered by his insurance, however because of relocating, the family is struggling to gather funds to leave everything behind and move into a new place. Jobs, house, and the familiarity of home will have to be left behind. The transplant process is an unknown factor as it depends on compatibility and timing of donor's organs ,therefore, length of time spent in Houston will be unknown. Some transplants could take longer than a year while others could be sooner. The recovery period of a transplant of this caliber could be up to 6 months or longer. As you can imagine, it will be a very difficult time for adjustment and the family starting a new life.
Jorge's mother is his caretaker and is with him 24/7, while his dad is the provider to the family. Since his father works in construction, he will have to re-adjust with a new job in a new city. He also drives the family to their appointments which can hinder his
The family and Jorge need the funds immediately as new expenses start accumulating such as $1,000 worth of dental work(not covered by insurance) in order to be accepted for the transplant procedure.
The family will use the funds to rent a new place within a short drive time to the hospital as Donor's organs are only kept alive for 4 hrs. The funds will assist with a 2 month grace period while the family adjusts to Houston. the usual first-month rent + utilities as well as home expenses back in Brownsville. Traveling expenses, food costs and other unforeseen expenses.
We are assembling the forces for this kind family… the prayer warriors, the donator’s, and the givers. If there is anything you could bless this family with in their time of need, we ask that of you. Jorge is one of the kindest gentle souls we have been blessed to know. We just want to help in any way we can for this family in their time of need. We will keep you updated on his journey and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping in their time of need.
