In Loving Memory of Jorge Sabater

My Dad, Jorge, was raced to the hospital at the beginning of April. He was not feeling well; vomiting blood and needed immediate help. He had to go to the hospital by himself on the ambulance. From the hospital, they transferred him to a trauma hospital via helicopter. During this time, he could not have any visitors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The doctors and nurses proceeded with emergency surgery to stop the bleeding and try to figure out the root cause of the problem. They found perforations in his intestines and liver cancer. The doctor and nurses did their best to keep him stable and took care of him when nobody else could come see him. He was in the hospital for a couple weeks and was then transferred to a hospice. He was sedated and put on a ventilator. He was also on antibiotics to fight off Sepsis (which was a result of the surgery). The nurses allowed his immediate family to talk to him through video calls. They were able to encourage him to keep on fighting. It seemed as though Jorge could hear them, as he was moving his head to acknowledge their voices. But he could not speak due to the intubation. They told him they loved him and they were sorry they couldn't be next to him. Jorge fought hard, but unfortunately his body was overcome by weeks of sedation and a difficult surgery. A couple of days later, his vitals started to go down and he went on to meet his Father in Heaven.

Dad served 8 years in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. As many Marines do when they leave service, Dad lived his life on his own terms and had a life full of experiences which made him a source of help for many that were down and out or just looking to have a good time. Dad was ALWAYS the life of any party. He was always a strong and caring supporter of his family and friends. Dad worked hard his entire life but he still had financial debt to pay and a life to carry on. With him gone I am focused on helping his wife Katherine through this difficult time losing her husband and primary provider.  Any donation amount you can help with will go directly towards helping our Family and Katherine keep her and Dads home and meet their monthly bills that is now left for only her to take care of. Although grief and loss is heavy in itself - the worry and stress from the monetary burden as a result of a tragedy like this is too much for one person to carry alone. Please consider any donation to help us bear the weight. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
