It has been nearly one year since the untimely passing of Jorge Eli Rodriguez, mere weeks before his high school graduation. To honor his memory and the lives he touched while on earth, his mother, Paloma, would like to make life a few dollars easier for local Lantine students to continue their education by awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a student attending trade or technical school and a $2,000 scholarship to a student attending a university or community college. The Jorge Eli Rodriguez Memorial Scholarship is a low-barrier application scholarship in the early planning stages. Any money exceeding the goal to be awarded in 2023 will be used toward future scholarships and creating a nonprofit organization with the mission of assisting Latine students to achieve their educational goals.
