Jorge Dinis

Hi, my name is Alyssa and I’m fundraising for my dad Jorge Dinis. It hasn’t been an easy 8 months for him, his wife or my youngest sister who is still really young and at home. Back in September my dad had a stroke. It was scary and unexpected but fortunately he was able to recover quickly and for the most part fully. He then went on to have open heart surgery at the end of November to replace his mitral valve which was no longer doing its job. This was difficult for him to bounce back from but he was working his way through this new chapter in his life. On Christmas Eve I received a phone call saying dad had another stroke and that he was in emergency surgery. This one was not like the first. It was worse. He was in the hospital for more than two months fighting fevers, infection, pneumonia, etc…he also lost his ability to speak and communicate with us. He finally went in to rehab after months and he’s been working hard to get back on his feet. He’s still not speaking except a word here and there but we’re still hopeful! His mobility has gotten much better and he can get around with assistance. Unfortunately during this time in rehab he lost his job of 20 plus years and now has medical costs that are going to be piling up since his insurance is now gone as well. Insurance is expensive and so are the things that are going to be needed once he goes home. My family is really hoping to help him and his wife with anything we can to alleviate at least a little of the stress that’s been put on their shoulders. My stepmother has been by my dads side every step of the way and works when she can but really has been his supporter through it all. My dad doesn’t ask for help. He’s the kinda guy who puts in his own pool and then builds a deck to go with it with his two hands. This has really been a hard blow for him considering how independent and self sufficient he is. He’s the father of seven, grandfather of four, a husband, a brother, a son and a friend to so many. I’m praying for some kindness out there for he and his family. Thank you for reading his story!
