It's with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our student, Jorge Benitez.
Jorge was a truly incredible young man. Despite being diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at an early age, Jorge's resolve to live life to its fullest never wavered. During his time at SBHS, Jorge excelled in his academics while also pursuing his passion for motivational speaking and meditation practices. After graduating in 2020, Jorge joined the WIN program where he took SBCC classes and continued to develop his mediation and motivational speaking skills. Most recently, he was excited to be working on his own Youtube channel which features his guided meditation sessions.
Jorge passed away peacefully on October 11th, just one day after his 22nd birthday. He is survived by his mother and little brother. His mom shared with us that in the hour before his passing, Jorge told her that he simply wanted to be remembered for the good he tried to do during his time here. He most certainly achieved that goal.
We will always remember Jorge for his positivity, his wisdom, his selflessness, and his relentless pursuit to make the world a better place.
At this time Jorge's family is working on organizing funeral and memorial services. We would like to support Jorge's family by raising money for his services. Any amount would be forever appreciated. We will share the time and date of services as soon as we know.
