This past Sunday evening, my daughter Jordyn, who suffers from Epilepsy, seized while in the shower. The resulting fall caused her to hit the faucet on the way down into the tub, which caused the water to run at maximum heat.
I reached her within 5 seconds of the fall, but by then the water had scalded 10% of her body and skin was immediately sloughing off. The burns affected her face, neck, head, shoulder, back, arm and hand. Some burns are second degree, but others are potentially third.
We are doing everything we can to care for her at home rather than admit her. If admitted, she would be taken to the ICU where I could not see or be with her for the next several weeks.
In an effort to keep her home and to take the absolute best care of her, there is a multitude ofsupplies/medications as well as the correct setup she needs in order to stave off infection and heal properly.
While she IS insured, the out-of-pocket costs for co-pays, in-home nursing, medications, wound dressings, food, etc. are currently more than I can feasibly take care of on my own. We even need a more acceptable sleeping situation for her (like a recliner) to keep her elevated and reduce swelling.
My husband continues to work, but I am her full-time caretaker at the moment and cannot work.
My pride hates me for asking for help, but I wouldn’t ask if Jordyn truly didn’t need it. Anything and everything done to help her is deeply appreciated.
