STEP UP FOR JORDY

If you’re lucky enough to know Jordy Wihak, you know what a kind, funny, and generous person he is. Brother, husband, father, brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, colleague, friend, prairie boy - an all-round excellent person.

And now Jordy needs help after a major health crisis. On Christmas Eve of 2021, Jordy had his right leg amputated to the hip because of a cancerous sarcoma.

This wasn't the way things were supposed to go. The original plan was to remove the sarcoma in surgery, but things escalated quickly and a much more drastic intervention was needed. As shocking as this development was, Jordy reached out to his family and friends two days after the surgery to let them know what happened, and to reassure everyone that he was OK.

"I’m going to try to remain positive and grateful for all the love and support I’ve been getting and will continue to get from Katie, our boys Sam and Josh, my siblings, my in-laws, friends and all the legions of wonderful health care workers I’ve encountered so far."

Jordy needs our help after his full-leg amputation, which will require months of arduous recovery. Jordy, whose work is based in Vancouver, B.C., is the principal wage-earner for his family who live in Olympia, Washington: wife Katie, who’s currently in grad school, and sons Sam (college sophomore), and Josh (7th grade).

In addition to the loss of income due to not being able to work while hospitalized and undergoing rehab, Jordy and his family will be incurring additional expenses that include a high-functioning prosthetic leg, household and vehicle retrofits, and travel between B.C. (where Jordy is being treated, and rehabbing), and his family in Washington state.

In his 25-year film and television career in Regina, Calgary, and Vancouver as an elite level and highly sought-after prop person, Jordy has worked on several Oscar and Emmy winning projects, including as the Prop Master on the Emmy Winning HBO Movie “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.” The self-less and giving Jordy is loved by everybody who knows and works with him.

Coming from a family of 7 siblings, Jordy knows the importance of family. Katie, Sam, and Josh are his mainstay. And now they need some support as they transition into their new reality.

Thank you for any contribution you can make, small or large, that will help Jordy and his family through the challenging months ahead and help ensure that Jordy stands on solid ground again.
