Hi to everyone this is reaching,

On Thursday, May 21 Jordan was harassed by seven young men, assaulted, then chased and eventually jumped by four of  them. They beat him senselessly with their skateboards, bearings down, and left him for dead. This beating was directed only at his head and has left Jordan with a Traumatic Brain Injury. We have been losing track of the days caring for Jordan, as he is suffering from hundreds of muscle spasms a day which are triggered from brain/nerve trauma, and incessant head aches (he rates at a 40/10) from his concussion. We are all very scared during this time and our anxiety is on high alert. Jordan is functioning in survival mode. 

Jordan was taken from the scene of the crime directly to Bellevue Hospital (notoriously, one of the worst in NYC as they are completely overstretched since they don't turn anyone away). Unfortunately, when Jordan was moved from the ER to the ICU, his stay in the ICU was tragically brief. They had a shortage of beds, requiring them to move him to the over flow floor (It looked like we stepped in a prison hospital) . The environment was not conducive to his healing with a PA system sounding off alarms behind his bed hundreds of times a day, and other patients on his floor fighting and yelling, bringing police into the unit due to their erratic and violent behaviors. The Doctor of this floor (who took more than 12 hours to reach) agreed that this was not the best location for him, but because there was no room for him to be transferred elsewhere for appropriate care, we finally convinced them to discharge Jordan so that his symptoms could be given a chance to improve. The ordeal has been insane. On his last night before being discharged, he underwent a 2 hour nosebleed which almost required a blood transfusion and did require an emergency surgery to his already broken nose.

We were forced to take refuge in a hotel near the hospital without any professional medical care oversight, in hopes to assuredly provide him better care than he was receiving. He’s been requiring around the clock attention to adjust his body during muscle spasms, provide medicine, soft food (he has stitches on the inside of his mouth and 4 teeth were knocked out of place so eating hard foods isn’t possible right now), clean sheets from night sweats and help him to use the bathroom and bathe etc etc. it has been a lot for all of us. 

We don’t have much time for individual updates but we appreciate you all coming to support us on this journey in anyway that you can offer - your wishes, resources and love. There’s a long journey ahead of us going from this current survival mode to rest and relaxation and eventually on his way to recovery and rehabilitation. We are still learning about all of the different types of care that he will eventually need, but in the immediate future we are trying to support him by being in New York with him and getting him back to Chicago so he can be around more family and in a safe environment to rest. Along this road we will need resource support to provide for the rest of our stay in New York, our safe travel back to Chicago, his medical care including: Trauma therapists, physical therapists, neurologists, TBI experts, reconstructive surgery and dental, as well as personal injury lawyer fees.
