Jordan's Autism Spectrum Disorder Therapy

Donation protected
Our son, Jordan, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the age of 19 months. We are asking for your help to fund the therapies necessary for him to lead a normal life.

About Jordan's Condition

After evaluations from an interdisciplinary team of physicians, psychologists, and specialists, it was determined that Jordan meets the DSM-5 criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Jordan is non-verbal and scored extremely low on the ABAS-3 in communication. The evaluation of Jordan's adaptive skills reveals a Borderline to Extremely Low level of adaptive functioning. The Cognitive scale of the developmental evaluation, however, indicates a cognitive functioning in the Average range. This tells us that he has the ability to apprehend but lacks the ability to communicate.

Our Goal

Our goal is to get him the help that he desperately needs, now while he is young. We are lucky in the sense that we caught it early, now we have to use this time the best way we can, by getting him into therapy as soon as possible and as much as possible.

In Canada, we are lucky to have a government and health care system that is committed to do right by its citizens. However, in some cases, like having a child with ASD for example, the time waiting for a case worker to pick up your file or for you to make it to the top of a waiting list can be long and agonizing. This time is better served getting the child the treatment he needs through the private sector, because every hour in a child's developing mind counts for so much more down the line.

Therapy needed

1) IBI Therapy

Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) is a specific intensive format used by the MCYS Autism Intervention Program. Usually delivered at home or in a private space designated by the Autism Intervention Program. IBI is primarily provided in a one-to-one or small group setting (low ratio) for a specified number of hours (up to 40) per week (intensity) It is delivered by a trained behaviour therapist, supervised by a psychologist. These therapies can cost between 35-50$ per hour, and Jordan has needs at least 20 hours a week of IBI therapy.

2) The services of a psychoeducator or specialized educator are recommended to implement an individualized development plan for Jordan. Objectives that focus on the development of his communication and socialization skills.

3) Intervention in speech pathology is recommended in order to help improve Jordan's overall communication skills.

4) Intervention in occupational therapy is recommended in order to help improve Jordan's overall motor skills as well as his daily adaptive skills.

Any donation, large or small, is greatly appreciated and will go directly to funding the aforementioned therapy. We will share updates on his progress throughout his treatment and look forward to Jordan saying the words "Thank You" himself.
