Jordan Slone's Cancer Fight Fund

Donation protected
Jordan Slone, teacher, IT professional, and all-around fun and goofy guy was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia in 2016 at the age of 31.

Jordan is the kind of friend and teacher we all need in our lives. He’s wholeheartedly committed to his students’ success and making sure the IT department he oversees runs smoothly. He dedicates many hours outside of the workweek to go above and beyond for the other teachers and school staff that he supports, and still finds time to crush some Star Wars, Seinfeld, or political meme on Facebook. He’s fought incredibly hard to remain positive through his struggles and has gone out of his way to pay it forward by mentoring students through his IT program, which he built from the ground up.

As with any cancer diagnosis, there have been ups and downs, good days, terrible days, and everything in between. We are all so, so grateful that Jordan’s BCR/ABL (cancer numbers) have remained low, but unfortunately, the numbers are still just outside of remission. Lately, it seems that around every corner of battling for his health, the insurance companies have made it extremely difficult for him to get the care he needs. For example, he had documentation that the on-brand medicine worked to fight his cancer and the generics didn’t; however, insurance would only pay for the generics until his oncologist team threatened to go public with his story. Most recently, because Jordan has a compromised immune system, he got a cold that landed him in the ER. Insurance is now refusing to pay for any of the medical costs associated with his treatment and stay. He’s done everything “right” by making sure he had a steady job that covered his health insurance and following his doctors' protocols to the letter. He works on making sure his mental and spiritual health are in good condition so that his body has every chance to fight the cancer. Right now, he’s facing debt from costs related to medical treatment, other health issues, costs of travel and stay in Columbus where his doctors are, and potential legal costs. Jordan was debt-free (except for car) beginning in 2016 and even though has paid approximately $95,000 towards his healthcare costs, he’s still in debt. He’s attempted to hold down two jobs, he’s moved back in with family and has tried to “pull himself up by his bootstraps” but there’s only so much one person can do.

The $42,000 we’re hoping to raise will allow Jordan to pay down the debts that he has accrued due to his cancer diagnosis. Please help us help Jordan by contributing anything you can to his overwhelming stack of medical bills.
