Jordan Gardiner Adds Cancer to his List of Battles

Donation protected
Let me introduce to you our son Jordan Gardiner.  He is a 28 year old caring and compassionate young man who has a gentle spirit and a kind heart.  At the age of 8 months, Jordan was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic and fatal childhood disease that affects the lungs and digestive systems of those who have it.  Despite having CF, Jordan has remained positive, optimistic and has been diligent in maintaining good health.  He has always made sure that he has lived his life to the fullest, with purpose and with meaning.  He recognized early on the importance of giving back to his community.  He has volunteered countless hours for causes including Mental Health, Cancer, and a charity most near and dear to his heart; Cystic Fibrosis.

On August 7, 2019 during a regular visit to the CF Clinic in Sudbury, his doctor suspected that Jordan might have a condition known as Distal Intestinal Obstructive Syndrome (DIOS) based on some symptoms he was having related to his bowels (CF).  They immediately referred him to St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto who specializes in CF and Gastrointestinal Disorders to have a colonoscopy, flush his bowels and remove any obstructions.

He and his family travelled on August 8 to St. Mikes Hospital (a 4 hour commute one way) expecting to be there for 1 or 2 days.  After a 5 day stay and multiple tests and procedures our family heard the words no person ever wants to hear; “Jordan you have stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer.  It has spread to your liver and lungs”.  This was unexpected and devastating news to him, his fiancé and his family.

Despite getting this news 3 days before his wedding day, Jordan and Paige were married on August 17, 2019.  It was a day filled with emotion, meaning, joy and love.  It was a truly beautiful and blessed day.

On Monday August 19, 2019, we travelled back to St. Michael’s hospital where Jordan received his first Chemotherapy treatment.  Jordan will have to undergo Chemotherapy treatments every 2 weeks in Toronto for the rest of his life or as he will tell you until he is Cancer free.  As you can imagine the costs associated with his treatments will be very high.  Some of the costs include gas, parking, overnight stays in hotels, food and medications and supplies that are not covered.  In addition to this, Jordan is indefinitely off work from an occupation he loves, a Paramedic.

Although the prognosis is not a good one and the odds are not in his favour, here’s what you need to know about Jordan. He is courageous, he is resilient, he is strong willed, and he is determined to beat the odds.  He has a positive attitude, “believe you can and your half way there”!

Jordan has positively impacted and enriched the lives of those who are lucky enough to be in his.    As a Paramedic, he is passionate about the quality of care he provides to his patients and finds self-gratification by knowing he makes a difference in the lives of those he cares for.  Jordan has saved many lives, and now he needs help to save his own.

We are asking for your assistance to help ease the burden that comes with having Cancer and CF so that Jordan can focus solely on his journey to recovery.   Every donation, big or small will make a big difference.
