Jordan and Cesar REUNITED

Donation protected
Hello Everyone,

It’s been a hard year for everyone; for us. Since January, Cesar and I have been separated. What was meant to be a short wait for his return, turned into what is now almost a year apart because of COVID-19.  I can’t even begin to say how hard it is to be separated from the person you love most, and the overwhelming feeling of helplessness and lack of control that we have felt over all of this. This challenge has only served to strengthen our resolve, love and commitment to each other. We searched for options to be reunited.

On October 16th, we married. It was a happy day.

What I had first expected to be a relatively straightforward process, turned into a complicated and expensive one. Cesar was not able to legally visit Canada for us to marry because of the COVID-19 travel restrictions. Non-familial visitations were prohibited. This would have been much easier because getting married in Mexico was not easy.

In Veracruz, (the state where Cesar lives) gay marriage is illegal so we contacted many states to find a place in Mexico where we could
a)      legally marry,
b)     was not locked down to COVID-19
c)      would not have an overly burdensome bureaucratic process (ex. residency restrictions, excessive paperwork)

We settled on Campeche and after months of hard work and expense; the authentication and legalization of my documents, and multiple trips to Campeche (Cesar had to travel 7 hours by bus twice to file paperwork in the state just so we could have a date set and book our our wedding!) we made it happen. I flew to Mexico and we had our wedding. We are now legally married and he can finally come to visit me in Canada.

It’s been a roller coaster of a process, both emotionally and financially.

This is just the first step. Next comes the expense of immigration sponsorship so we can finally be together permanently. We are beginning our new life together. We are both so happy and overwhelmed.

This is why I’ve created this GoFundMe.

I’ve never been one to ask for help, but we honestly need it. This year I’ve taken a hit financially with work in general (not to mention the further hit from losing work for the wedding and quarantine), Cesar was left stranded in an economically depressed town living with his family, and all of this has been very expensive. We have burnt through all of our savings, we are financially exhausted and overextended. Cesar is a hard worker but it’ll be many months before he’ll be able to legally work here in Canada.

I don’t know what to call this;
A wedding shower maybe? Just a plain and simple request for help? An opportunity to help sponsor and unbelievably awesome new Canadian?  All of the above.

The funds raised will be used to help us with upcoming and current financial costs of both immigration and starting our new life together. Every little bit helps.

Thank you all.
With much love, your friends,

Jordan and Cesar
