Jorah's Bone Cancer Removal Fund

Donation protected
Hi! We are the Potters, and this is our boy Jorah.

A few weeks ago, our spunky boy hopped off of our deck steps to do his backyard business (standard procedure, really). Later on, we noticed that he was favoring his front right paw a bit. Thinking he might have simply sprained it, we took him in to our trusted vet. A few x-rays revealed that our sweet boy had not only fractured his leg (right side distal ulna fracture), but did so right through a rather large bone tumor.

Our friends at Meadowbrook Veterinary Clinic were quick to send the imaging off for analysis, and confirmed our fears- Jorah had cancer. With the location of the fracture being right through the tumor, there was not much of a chance that the fracture would heal on its own. That said, our best option was determined to be amputation at the shoulder. Our vet reached out to a few other professionals in Chicago to see if there was anything else we could do.

Before we committed to the amputation surgery, we wanted to be certain that the cancer had not already spread. A week after his initial x-ray, we took him in for a met scan, a biopsy, and additional imaging to check on the fracture. Luckily, the met scan was clear! Jorah's fracture, though, looked much worse. Jorah is a very high energy pup, and keeping him stationary is quite the challenge!

Our vet called us today with some wonderful news! After speaking with the vets she knew in Chicago, they decided that the could accomplish the tumors removal without removing Jorah’s entire limb. She explained that she would be able to go in and cut out the impacted portion of his ulna and replace the missing portion with a screw/rod!

With the fracture progressively worsening, we went ahead and scheduled his surgery for this coming Thursday (June 22nd). Luckily, it will cost a bit less than the full amputation, and our boy will get to keep his limb! We are hoping to be able to fundraise the last half of what we need throughout this week. Thank you all for your generous donations and kind words of support! We would not have been able to get this far without you.

Jorah has been our baby from the very beginning, and has helped us us through many of life's ups and downs. He is a big ball of energy, accompanied with the most gentle soul. We are looking forward to having him with us as we gear up to start a family of our own. Jorah will be 6 years old in November, and has many more years of adventures ahead of him.

Thank you for your time and consideration ❤️
