Jonathan’s Fight Against Colon Cancer

 
     In the late afternoon of August 27, 2018, Jonathan Solow received the news that his colonoscopy biopsy results tested positive for cancer.  Earlier that day, he had attended his first day of classes at SUNY Brockport College, starting off what was to be the beginning of his junior year.  He was very excited about returning to school as he had just changed his major from Business to Sports Management.  The days of testing that followed indicated that the cancer had spread from his colon to the peritoneal lining that surrounds the bowel.  The cancer was now classified as Stage IV Signet Ring Carcinoma of the Colon – a very rare (< 1% of all colon cancers) and aggressive type.

     Jonathan is currently undergoing a rigorous regimen of chemotherapy every 2 weeks in attempts to shrink the cancer.  After several rounds of chemo (possibly months), Jonathan will be re-evaluated in hopes of becoming a candidate for cytoreductive peritoneal resection surgery which would remove the peritoneal lining and his colon, thereby removing the cancer.  This would be a very invasive and risky surgery that would require 6-9 months of recovery time.  This surgery would not provide a “cure” by medical standards as the cancer may come back, but we know that God is able to perform a miracle.

     Jonathan is a 2015 graduate of Hilton High School and a former varsity soccer player.  He currently referees high school soccer in hopes of one day refereeing at the college level and beyond.  Please join us in praying for a miracle for Jonathan as he fights this battle against colon cancer.  If you feel compelled to donate, all funds raised will go towards Jonathan’s medical expenses.  Words cannot thank you enough for your prayers and support.
