In Early September 2016, the Hewitt family received news that every family dreads receiving. Jon Hewitt underwent a colonoscopy that found a signoid mass which was determined to be AdenoCarcinoma. Throughout the next two months Jon and his wife Amber traveled back and forth between the UP and Minnesota to Mayo Clinic where Jon underwent numerous tests and procedures. These ultimately resulted in Jon having 5 inches of his colon removed, after which he spent 3 days in recovery. He was discharged with Stage 3 Colon Cancer which would require chemotherapy every 2 weeks for 6 months.
Despite this tremendous challenge to his health, Jon and Amber have continued to run their business, UP Orthodontic Lab, efficiently and professionally, providing their indispensable services to the Marquette area. Jon continues to work his standard long hours and when he cannot, Amber is stepping in to perform his duties as well as her own at the Lab. All while providing a stable, functional, and loving household and environment for their two young children, 5 and 2 years old.
As everyone knows , the cost of medical treatment, travel costs, work hours lost and all other costs associated with cancer and chemotherapy treatment accumulate quickly. Additionally the Chemotherapy costs have recently increased.
Please consider helping this young family. NO ONE should ever have to go through cancer and anyone who has or knows, loves, or supports someone who has, knows how difficult it is. Cancer is physically, mentally, emotionally and financially exhausting.
This campaign has been created in hopes that our generous and compassionate community will come together to support this young family who has their entire lives ahead of them. The hope is to show them they are not alone in this challenge. To have additional support from the area they grew up in, contribute to, love, and will raise their family in would mean so much to them.
A Spaghetti Lunch fundraiser will be held on April 8th, from 12-3 at the American Legion Post 44, at 700 Bluff st in Marquette. Tickets will be $8 for Adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Ticket Sale locations are Studio 519 at 519 W. Washington st, PUREBODY fitness studio at 147 W. Washington and Jamieson Orthodontics at 1020 Lincoln Ave all in Marquette.
