Don protégé
JON'S STATUS:
Jon was admitted to the hospital on 11/6/17. He has severe necrotizing pancreatitis (NP). As of 12/11/17, he is still in the ICU, battling and recovering slowly.
His trajectory will likely be ICU; then step-down unit in the hospital; then in-patient at a rehab facility; then outpatient PT and various therapies. There is no way to know course and timeframe of disease and recovery. Best case, I think, is home in a month or so.
We are currently focused on getting him out of the ICU, which includes getting him off the ventilator, increasing his mobility (hopefully he will take first steps this week), minimizing effects of ICU delirium, and ideally avoiding any additional infections and complications.
FINANCIAL NEEDS:
I'm not sure what our financial needs will be or for how long. To start, today (12/11) he goes on disability, which is half of salary, so a loss of about $3k in income a month. Help towards this will ensure we can make our mortgage!
We're also going to have medical bills, both western and holistic therapies. I'm currently working through our insurance denying coverage and won't know impact on us for a while.
Other increased costs because of this situation are more dog boarding and walking - an increase of about $50/week.
And most immediately, I'd like to buy an iPad ($300?). I've been advised by speech therapy here that can be really helpful for communication in the ICU. He can't speak on the ventilator and writing out sentences by hand is challenging for him right now.
