Welcome to Jonny’s Flight ✈️
We created this non-profit to honor the memory of our son, Jonathan. Jonny was a wonderful boy, with a kind heart, and unbelievable talent. He loved his family and his community deeply.
Jonny was on the autism spectrum, however high functioning. From the time he was a child, he dealt with cruelty because he was “different”. Bullying reached an extreme level when he started 8th grade and continued into high school. On December 4, 2023, he tragically took his own life at just 15 years old, and our family was forever changed.
Jonny dreamt of being a pilot in the United States Air Force. He was a walking encyclopedia of planes, from WW I until now. He would often impress the military recruiters that came to the school with his vast knowledge and love for aviation.
We thought very hard about what kind of legacy we wanted for our son, and we decided that giving other students the opportunity to pursue their dream of flying was the most impactful way to honor Jonny. Our goal is to provide scholarships to deserving youth that have this goal for their future.
We are also keenly aware that many children on the spectrum have an affinity for math and engineering, and although they may not ever be able to fly, there are many ways they can pursue a career around aeronautics. Camps and special programs are in the planning stages.
Because of the circumstances surrounding our son’s passing, we cannot overlook the great need for anti-bullying resources. We will be as loud as possible to promote change, to not only protect the victims, but educate schools, parents and children. We have reached the point of an epidemic. It must stop.
We are grateful for the outpouring support for our mission, and hope you will all stay on this journey with us.
Be kind. Always.
