Joni Martin Fire Recovery Fund

After an overwhelming response from an Instagram post, I decided to make this page for our mom, Joni, whose house was sadly destroyed along with the entire town of Phoenix in Oregon by fires ravaging the west coast.

Luckily, she was not in Phoenix at the time of the fire. For the past 3 years she has been there off and on, but mostly staying at our grandparents' home in Southern California as they move into end of life. Our grandmother passed on March 11 this year and our grandfather is not far behind. Mom has been working as a nurse at a nearby hospital while caring for them. With the pandemic hitting Southern California hard, she has recently outsourced in-home care for our grandpa while she works shifts in the COVID wing as the need for nurses was dire.

Joni is especially devastated because the house was meant to be a quiet place for retirement not too far away, and she spent the last few years updating it herself, bringing all of her family treasures there including a wood chest my grandfather built, quilts and knits her grandmother made, and trinkets from a lifetime of travels.

While money may not bring back the sentimental items, we are hoping to help alleviate the burden of replacing necessities like winter clothes and furniture while Joni figures out next steps.

Sending our love to everyone affected by and still experiencing these awful events.

Please share this post if you feel a calling to. Thank you so much!
