Hi, my name is Sarah McFarland and I am making this GoFundMe page for my wonderful brother, Jonathan. My big brother has struggled with addiction and mental health for more than half of his life and he is only 33 years old. The debilitating affects addiction has on your mental clarity and everyday decision making is unimaginable. Fear of being stigmatized or failing is part of what has made it hard for him to come forward with his truth to us or anyone. He is an incredible person - thoughtful, funny, shameless, and has so much love to give to others. He has been an avid athlete, cook, and lover of nature his entire life. Over the last few years, however, his mental and physical health began declining very quickly.
On March 6th, Jonathan was rushed to the hospital due to what we now know as multi-system organ failure from alcoholism. He had 20% kidney function, severe pancreatitis, liver failure, and aspiration pneumonia from throwing up blood. Jonathan's strength and the remarkable doctors have been able to alleviate a portion of these complications. However, Jonathan remains in critical condition with severe pancreatitis.
His medical care will include physical, cognitive, and speech therapy once he is no longer critical. The doctors are very hopeful but the hard part is what comes next. Addiction recovery. Our family has a long history with addiction recovery and mental illness. It runs on both sides and unfortunately started at a very young age for Jonathan.
Jonathan is empathetic and sensitive to everyone around him. He is the definition of a great friend. We truly hope he chooses to love himself enough to know he is so much more than his addiction. Please help us raise money for his medical and addiction recovery journey.
WE LOVE YOU JONATHAN!
