On February 2 Jonathan's parents received the official and heartbreaking diagnosis that their sweet boy has Synovial Sarcoma- a type of cancer more common in kids ages 12-14; but more rare in 4 year olds. As you can imagine there is great uncertainty in what their future will look like as they navigate treatment options and location of those treatments.
They are thankfully under the care and direction of wonderful Oncology specialist in Indianapolis as well as the team at Riley who are putting together at game plan. Given the type of cancer that Jonathan has been diagnosed with there is of course the immediate need to scan the rest of his body to ensure there has been no metasis. A week ago Jonathan had an initial surgery to remove the mass initially found and they were unable to get clean margins from this surgery so an additional surgery will be necessary in the coming weeks.
This fundraiser is being organized in hopes of allowing Jen and Joel some breathing room financially to give them the mental bandwidth to focus on Jonathan and the journey ahead. If Jonathan's primary treatment will take place in Indianapolis the travel cost and lodging is likely to become a substantial burden on top of the emotional toll as well as medical obligations. The Bible says, 'Many hands create light work' and it's circumstances such as this that the Church body even in small individual contributions can make a huge impact and truly be the hands and feet of Jesus to our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Currently there are some specific prayer requests for Jonathan shared by his mom, Jen:
1) Expedited MRI and PET scans scheduled. Likely will be local/Fort Wayne and early in the week. (We played phone tag with his nurse after the appt about getting these scheduled either in FW or Riley if they can do it sooner. I bet it’s not possible to both “at the same time” since he has to be sedated for both? I will call her asap in the morning)
2) Pray that the pet scan is clear, no spread/metastasis.
3) Pray surgery can be scheduled asap. He has privileges at IU Med and Riley. Not sure where it would be at this point.
4) Pray for logistics and travel. My parents, Mike and Betsy Stevens, live very close to us and have been helping get Jane to/from school etc.
5) Pray for peace in the waiting. And joy! Their kids need to continue enjoying childhood and have some normalcy when possible!
6) Pray for Jonathan and his big sister Jane
Every prayerful contribution to the Moser family is greatly appreciated and will be used with wise stewardship of the financial blessing you've given them during this uncertain time. Jen and Joel despite their fear of Jonathan's diagnosis have continued to say in all of their updates, 'God is Soverign' -- what a powerful testament to their faith and trust in our Lord and Savior.
